The fifth annual Gold Gala, An Evening for St. Jude, is a formal event where New York’s leading young philanthropists join together for an evening of generosity to celebrate and honor the lifesaving work of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Our mission is simple: to help save lives and celebrate St. Jude’s continued dedication to leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other deadly diseases.

Music Makes Wishes 2022 

Help us give a critically-ill child hope this holiday season 

This year would have held the 4th annual Music Makes Wishes Benefit: A fun-filled night of live music to raise money to grant the wish of a child with a critical illness. In years past, I along with my band, Men or Myth, have organized local NYC musicians to come together to perform in unique collaborations and offer live-band karaoke for guests to join in with the band on stage, all in an effort to raise money for Make A Wish Metro New York. 

For various reasons, we were unfortunately unable to host the event in person this year. In lieu of the in-person event, we have collaborated with several local musicians from afar to produce some uplifting music to share with you virtually. A very special thank you goes out to all of the musicians that contributed to this project! Please consider donating to help us grant the wish of a critically-ill child. Every little bit helps! As a member of the Junior Board of Make-A-Wish Metro New York and as a wish granter volunteer, I have had the opportunity to see first-hand the immense positive impact that wishes have on children and their families. A wish is more than simply a fun experience, it is hope. In a world of physical limitations, constant doctor appointments, and perhaps a limited period of time on this earth, the wish experience is truly a vacation from reality and the opportunity for the child to forget about their troubles and to dream big and for their family to share in the fun. Wishes impact everyone involved- wish kids, their families, volunteers, donors, sponsors, medical professionals and communities. The impact varies. For wish kids, just the act of making their wish come true can give them the courage to comply with their medical treatments. Parents might finally feel like they can be optimistic. And still others might realize all they have to offer the world through volunteer work or philanthropy. Whatever the odds, whatever the obstacles…wishes find a way to make the world better. 

Your donation will help grant the wish of a critically ill child in the NY Metro area. Make-A-Wish grants thousands of wishes each year. A lot, yes, but that’s only 50% of eligible kids. Your donation will help additional deserving children and their families know the happiness, relief, and renewal a wish can bring.

A Wish I Will Never Forget: 

While many of the children that Make A Wish grants wishes to recover from their illness and go on to lead full lives, there are those that sadly do not. I will never forget one wish granting experience where I visited the intensive care unit of an NYC children’s hospital to provide some musical entertainment for a 5 year old girl’s wish for a unicorn themed birthday party. As I walked through the floor, past room after room containing young boys and girls hooked up to IV’s and many on ventilators, I could not help but think of my own 2 year old daughter and the anguish that the families of these children must be going through. Through the entire experience I fought to restrain my tears, a near impossible feat. The young girl whose wish we granted had a rare disease that was essentially shutting down her entire body. Despite her illness and dire state, she smiled and danced along to the music with her family in her hospital bed. All of the colorful unicorn decorations filled the room and lit up her face with joy. For a few brief moments, the family was able to laugh and have fun together. The young girl passed away two days after her party. While I and my fellow wish granter’s were overcome with grief from this news, the family reached out to Make A Wish to express their sincere gratitude for providing such a wonderful, happy experience to keep forever as their last memory with their precious daughter. 

Simply put, Wishes make a difference and they leave a lasting impression on both the children and their families. Please help us continue to grant wishes for critically ill children by donating today.
